University of Science and Technology, the University of Danang exchanges and cooperates with Quang Ngai Province on vocational guidance and STEM experience

On the morning of January 25, 2022, the University of Science and Technology, Da Nang University had a meeting with Quang Ngai province to discuss the content that will be implemented in 2022.

Attending the meeting, on the Quang Ngai province side was Mr. Tran Hoang Tuan –  Vice Standing Chairman of the People's Committee, Chairman of the meeting and representative of the leadership of the Department of Education and Training,Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Department of Home Affairs, and Pham Van Dong University. On the side of the University of Science and Technology, there are Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Quang Vinh – Master, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Hieu – Vice Headmaster and Dr. Pham Thanh Hung – Deputy Director in charge of The Center for Learning Information Resources and Communication.

Mr. Tran Hoang Tuan - Vice Standing Chairman of the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee sends his respectful greetings and New Year's greetings to the University of Science and Technology,University of Danang . He emphasized that the proposal contents of the school is very important in supporting the development of high quality human resources for the province, vocational work according to the needs of human resources of the province, the implementation of STEM education and digital transformation are the contents that Quang Ngai province is very interested in.

Ms. Vu Thi Lien Huong – Deputy Director of Quang Ngai Department of Education and Training presented the general situation of vocational guidance, stem education and scientific research in upper and lower secondary schools of the province

Ms. Vu Thi Lien Huong – Deputy Director of Quang Ngai Department of Education and Training said: Every year, the Department coordinates with universities to organize admission counseling programs but having not organized vocational counseling programs for high school students. In particular, the Department and High Schools need information on human resource forecasts and employment needs of society in the upcoming years to orient career for students more professionally. She proposed to coordinate with the University of Science and Technology , University of Danang to organize online career counseling sessions for students of provincial high schools and local counseling programs. She also pointed out the limitations in the province's implementation of STEM education, such as the small number of teachers educated in STEM training and the lack of research facilities. For the Science and Technology competitions, the province always creates conditions for high schools to participate but there are limited ideas, the number of students participating is not much because there is no in-depth guidance and clear research orientation.

In the general situation presented by the Department of Education and Training of Quang Ngai province, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Quang Vinh – Principal of University of Technology and Technology, the University proposes two parties to implement cooperation to support Quang Ngai province based on the mission and strengths of the University: training, scientific research and community service.

Besides, Quang Ngai province is focusing on the development of industrial modernization and digital transformation, so the demand for high quality human resources in the technical field is extremely necessary - Dr. Pham Thanh Hung - Deputy Director in charge of  The Center for Learning Information Resources and Communication, University of Science and Technology also presented. This is the basis for the University of Science and Technology, University of Danang – a university training on the leading scientific and technical disciplines of the Central Highlands and Quang Ngai province will have connection and cooperation in training and development of potential human resources of the province.

With the purpose of orienting high school students to choose a career in accordance with their interests, capacity, and human resource needs of Quang Ngai province in the period of strong digital transformation; coordinating with high schools in STEM experiential education and scientific research, long-term connection between University of Science and  Technology and high schools of Quang Ngai province, the university proposes 04 contents that will be coordinated with Quang Ngai province in the period of 2022-2023 as follows:

1. Coordinating to organize online career orientation sessions;
2. Coordinating in implementing STEM experience for high schools;
3. Co-guiding high school students to do scientific research and participate in scientific and technical competitions;
4. Inviting the groups of high school students to participate in the Techshow DUT science and technology exhibition organized annually by the University of Science and Technology.

Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Huu Hieu – Vice Headmaster of University of Science and Technology, University of Danang also thanked the Department of Education and Training of Quang Ngai province for facilitating the school in providing information about the school's training programs to students and parents. He looks forward to the two parties signing a long-term cooperation agreement, career orientation and stem experience programs for high school students of the province will be organized more professionally.

Dr. Tran Dinh Tham - Principal of Pham Van Dong University is very supportive and looks forward to the early implementation of the cooperation between the two parties.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Dialog – Deputy Director of Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affair  of the province strongly supports the proposals of the University of Science and Technology. He wished the school will organize career orientation sessions soon and connect further with 05 vocational education institutions of the province. In addition, Mr. Ha Van Tinh –  Deputy Director of the Provincial Interior Affairs Department hopes that the University will support the province in the training and fostering of cadres and civil servants to improve the professional level of information technology application in state management and build digital government with digital human resources.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Tran Hoang Tuan - Vice Standing Chairman of the Quang Ngai People’s Committee agreed with the cooperation proposals of the University and assigned the relevant units to closely coordinate and implement the contents quickly and effectively. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Quang Vinh - Principal of University of Science and Technology, University of Danang also hopes that the University's strengths will support the training, career orientation, STEM education and scientific research experience of Quang Ngai province in the upcoming time.
