The Conference took place based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in June 2023 between the University of Danang and the Ulysseus Alliance (Ulysseus European University, hereinafter referred to as the Ulysseus Alliance). The alliance includes the University of Côte d’Azur (France), the University of Seville (Spain), the University of Genoa (Italy), the Technical University of Košice (Slovakia), MCI Management Center Innsbruck (Austria), Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences (Finland), the University of Montenegro (Montenegro), and the University of Münster (Germany). The goal of this collaboration is to implement comprehensive, efficient, and long-term cooperation with the Ulysseus Alliance, contributing to enhancing the quality of education, scientific research, and international cooperation, as well as promoting entrepreneurial activities and innovation.

The Ulysseus Alliance delegation visited and worked with the University of Danang (UD) for two days on October 24th and 25th, 2023. The key agenda during their stay at UD included:

(1) Plenary session between the Ulysseus Alliance and the University of Danang on October 24th.

(2) Ulysseus-Danang Forum: Collaboration in Academic - Research - Innovation for a Smart City (UDERIF-2023) held on October 24th and 25th.

On the first working day (October 24th), experts and scientists from the 7 universities of the Ulysseus Alliance and member universities of the University of Danang (University of Education and Technology, University of Economics, University of Education and science, University of Foreign Languages, University of Science and Technology, University of Information Technology and Communication Vietnam-Korea, and DNIIT) organized specialized groups. These groups facilitated discussions among leaders, experts, scientists, and researchers, where they reported and exchanged in-depth content within their respective fields. The discussions covered research topics, projects, and presentations of potential needs and strengths to guide collaboration in seven themes: Smart Education and Green City; Internationalization of Higher Education and Sustainable Universities; Internationalization of Higher Education and Sustainable Universities; Sustainable Tourism and Digital Economy; Culture, Arts, and Heritage; Sustainable Energy, Robotics, and Environment; Data Science

At UD-DUT, the discussion topic under Theme 6: Sustainable Energy, Robotics, and Environment took place with the participation of experts and scientists from the University of Clermont Auvergne - UCA, University of Montenegro (UCG ME), University of Genoa (UniGe, Italy), USE University, and UD-DUT.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Tien Dung - Vice Rector

In his opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Tien Dung - Vice Rector, warmly welcomed the researchers from European Universities to visit and collaborate with UD-DUT. This event played a significant role in fostering collaborative relationships following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in Nice, France, in June 2023. Additionally, it provided a great opportunity for DUT to expand its international cooperation as the University of Danang, which will officially became an international member of Ulysseus tomorrow (October 25).

Representatives from Ulysseus research teams shared their research results and proposed directions for collaboration with research groups at UD-DUT

The UDERIF seminar marks the first gathering between the 5 research teams from Ud-DUT, covering the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Transportation Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Water Resources, and Environmental Engineering. Researchers from Ulysseus also participated, focusing on the themes of "Sustainable Energy, Robotics, and the Environment." This forum served as a meeting place for research teams and scientists to exchange and share research findings, as well as to propose potential directions for collaboration in the near future.

Discussion

At the event, scientists and delegates proposed numerous ideas, directions, and implementation solutions for collaboration. The suggestions ranged from conceptual ideas to practical solutions, aiming to build joint projects through research activities, training, faculty and student exchange, capacity development, and more. These initiatives are geared towards fostering sustainable collaboration opportunities between the two parties in the future. The collaborative discussions and proposals will be further presented and exchanged with the leadership of both sides at the Ulysseus-Danang Forum (UDERIF-2023) on the morning of October 25th at the University of Danang. This seminar serves as the foundation for the relevant parties to continue building and proposing the implementation of projects and collaborative initiatives. The goal is to address common needs and benefits in the areas of education, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
