Strengthening International Cooperation in the Field of Construction: Academic Symposium Between Central Vietnamese Universities and Kasetsart University (Thailand)

On the afternoon of May 22, 2025, the International Academic Symposium between Kasetsart University (Thailand) and three Vietnamese universities - The University of Danang - University of Science and Technology (DUT), The University of Danang - University of Technology and Education, and Mien Trung University of Civil Engineering took place at DUT.

The event aimed to foster collaborative relationships and academic exchange in the field of construction and transportation engineering, while expanding the research network between universities in the region and international partners, particularly from Thailand.

Attending the symposium from DUT were:

  • Dr. Nguyen Hoang Trung Hieu - Deputy Head of the Office of Science, Technology and International Cooperation;
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Hoang Nam - Vice Dean of Faculty of Road and Bridge Engineering (Chairman);
  • Dr. Tran Thi Phuong Anh - Vice Dean of Faculty of Road and Bridge Engineering;
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Huu Dao - Head of Division of Construction Engineering Fundamentals;
  • Faculty members of Road and Bridge Engineering and members of the I-STAR research group.

The symposium also welcomed leaders and faculty from The University of Danang - University of Technology and Education, and Mien Trung University of Civil Engineering.
From Kasetsart University, the delegation included Prof.Dr. Suphawut Malaikrisanachalee - Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, along with 28 professors, associate professors, lecturers, and technicians.

Opening remarks and institutional presentations

In his opening remarks, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Trung Hieu expressed his pleasure in welcoming experts, lecturers, and researchers from Kasetsart University and the participating Vietnamese universities. He highlighted the event as a meaningful opportunity to share research directions and academic outcomes, as well as to promote long-term, sustainable collaboration.

The program began with overviews of the three Vietnamese universities, emphasizing their specialized research areas, training capabilities, and strengths in international cooperation. Representatives from Kasetsart University then presented current research directions in Thailand, particularly in the fields of structural, geotechnical, and transportation engineering.

Academic presentations and exchanges

In the presentation session hosted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Hoang Nam, participants engaged in active exchanges and shared insights on relevant topics. Notable presentations included:

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Huu Dao’s report on research and technology transfer in geotechnical engineering.
  • Dr. Phan Thanh Ngọc (The University of Danang - University of Technology and Education) discussing strong research directions in civil engineering.
  • Dr. Phan Tran Thanh Truc (Mien Trung University of Civil Engineering) sharing studies on disaster prevention and climate change adaptation.
  • Faculty members from Kasetsart University presenting advanced research in geotechnics, structural engineering, transportation engineering, and smart transportation.

Open and Productive Dialogue

The symposium took place in an open and enthusiastic atmosphere, with numerous in-depth questions exchanged regarding future research directions, opportunities for joint training programs, international conferences, and proposals for student and faculty exchange programs.

This event highlights the commitment of Vietnamese universities to internationalize education and scientific research, while paving the way for more in-depth collaboration in the near future.
