Sakura Science Exchange Program at Kagoshima College of Computer Business and Public Service, in Japan 2018

From October 19 to October 28, a group of students from the University of Science and Technology, University of Danang, went to Japan to participate in the Sakura Science Exchange Program 2018. This is a program within the framework of international cooperation activities between University of Science and Technology, University of Danang and Kagoshima College of Computer Business and Public Service, (Japan). The Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology (FAST) has 02 students participating in this program, namely Pham Le Minh Hoang 15ECE-EE and Dang Tuan Kiet 15ES.

The delegation of the University of Science and Technology - University of Danang took a photo with the Leaders of Kagoshima College of Computer Business and Public Service.

The delegation visited the modern laboratories of electronics, mechanics and urban planning of Kagoshima Kosen School; especially DUT students also have the opportunity to visit factories of large Japanese corporations such as Sony, Sumimoto or Toyota. Being witnessed industrial production equipment as well as explained about the product manufacturing processes from the ideation stage to the mass production process, this gave students an overview and meticulousness in each stage to produce a finished product. This is an extremely valuable experience for students who are burning with their start-up ideas.

In addition, the delegation also visited famous scenic spots in Kyushu with the most special ecosystem in the world when it is located next to the Sakurajima volcano but also very modern and crowded. Furthermore, during the trip, the students in the group also experienced customs, practices as well as learned about the daily life of Japanese. Especially, in Miyakonojo Kosen School, the group enjoyed Japanese traditional tea ceremony performed by the students in the school club. These are the experiences and memorable memories of each member about Japanese culture, country and people.

Pham Le Minh Hoang (15ECE), an all-round excellent student.

Dang Tuan Kiet (15ES) – former head of the student group doing scientific research. He was a person who well in all subjects, shared precious emotions and experiences, especially to the following generations of students:

Dang Tuan Kiet (15ES) is passionate about scientific research with very good academic records.

“The first day we arrived in Japan, the group was quite tired after a long trip, but the first place to visit was Kitakyusyu, a rather interesting place, it partly helped everyone to feel more refreshed. This city is implementing two projects on energy saving and alternative energy, which are: The Smart Community and Hydrogen Energy. What impressed me the most was the people's sense of contribution to the formation and development of the city. The next interesting place I want to mention is the Mizuma Gymnasium, where the Robocon competition takes place. I once went to watch a Robocon match in Vietnam, and now when I watch it in Japan, the atmosphere is a little different. The members of the teams and the school all wear a different color, the cheers from the members of the competing team and the cheers from the school unit, even the decoration of the Robots of the teams, all have created a unique feature of Robocon Japan and this really left a strong impression on me.

The first school in Japan I went to was Kagoshima College. The school seems a bit smaller than the University of Science and Technology, but the design and layout of the campus is what I pay more attention to. The teachers and students at the school are very friendly and approachable, if there were no language barrier I'm sure we could share more about each other's experiences. The first class I took was an Information Engineering class, specifically a Transfer Function class. Luckily, I already have a background in this area, so most of the time in class I pay my attention to how my friends in Japan study, their gestures, attitudes and actions, and even the way students learn. Do you work separately during class time compared to Vietnamese students? I had the opportunity to participate in 4 classes in school, but perhaps the most impressive time was the last. The last class is simply a trip to visit the laboratories, teaching equipment of the school, and especially introduction the students' ongoing products and projects. I was really impressed by the quite strange facilities, and most of all, the very interesting projects of two 5th year students, I regret that I don't have much time so I can't ask more information about the projects. It is quite impressive to me that students here have an interest in doing research from a very early age, even if it is only a small topic of self-study. A first-year student introduced me to how to find the coefficient of elasticity of an object, even though it's just a small physics research topic, your description and working attitude are very attentive and serious. Some larger topics such as self-balancing pendulum, image processing, etc. are also some of the topics that some DUT students have been doing, unfortunately there is not much time for me to exchange more knowledge. with Japanese students.

What I look forward to the most in this trip is to visit the factories, production sites and research facilities of some big names such as Sony, Toyota, JAXA, etc. I have an interest in chip and microchip design, so at this time the most expected is the trip to Sony semiconductor manufacturing company. Seeing the manufacturing process, the size of the factory, and what's done after the design phase of an IC shows me how quickly technology develops. After going on this trip, I realized that the knowledge at school will not be enough for me to do a job at the company, but will be the foundation for my thinking to be able to develop further after I go to work.

In addition, the delegation also experienced the way of life, living habits of the Japanese people, customs, practices and beliefs. The memory of the tea ceremony seems to be my happiest memory. In Vietnam, I was able to drink tea in Hue royal style, now I can experience the Japanese tradition and art of enjoying tea.”

This exchange trip has brought a lot of knowledge as well as valuable experiences for the whole delegation from what they have learned in Japan about professional, academic as well as cultural exchange between the two countries; created an exchange environment between students of University of Science and Technology, University of Danang and Kagoshima College of Computer Business and Public Service, thereby develop friendship and mutual understanding between Vietnamese students and Japanese students.
